Why it’s on the list: If you haven’t yet read the Bollocks to Alton Towers book or its sequel (formerly known as Far from the Sodding Crowd) then they are worth a look. Subtitled “Uncommonly British Days Out” they review numerous little-known museums, parks and other places around the UK that are more unusual than Alton Towers et al. I’ve been to a few of the places already – the Poldark Tin Mine, the Secret Nuclear Bunker and Beconscot Model Village are all good fun, and the Louis Tussaud House of Wax in Great Yarmouth is absolutely the biggest laugh ever. There are plenty more in there I would like to visit though!
How/when I’ll judge this task to be completed: When I have selected and visited three places mentioned in the books.

1. House of Marbles, Bovey Tracey, Devon. Loved this place, which is part shop, part museum, part glassworks. Lots to see but we managed to miss the highlight, the country’s largest marble run, which is apparently upstairs! Will have to visit again!
