The Redbreast by Jo Nesbø
My rating: 4 of 5 stars
I’ve only recently discovered Jo Nesbo (thanks to special offers on Kindle!) and this is the second book of his I’ve read, though I believe it’s the third in the series, and the first to be translated into English. The first book I read was The Snowman, which is about 6th in the series …. this one filled in a lot of gaps in Harry Hole’s story, as it’s the book where he meets Rakel and Oleg, and a lot about their relationship in the later book made more sense having read this.
Following an unfortunate incident during an American presidential visit, Harry is “promoted” to a role in a quiet department. However, his attention is caught by a report about a fiendishly expensive rifle being imported into the country, and his efforts to trace the gun lead him into a mystery about the second world war, neo-nazism and a bid to foil an assassination.
A real page turner that kept me intrigued all the way through, as the story was unravelled bit by bit. Looking forward to reading more in the series.
